the story behind JANE

Jane Candle Co. is a BIPOC- and AAPI woman-owned home fragrance company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, founded by mother-daughter team Angela Rekucki and Macailah Maxwell.
Our story began long before we ever poured our first candle.
As a single mother, Angela worked tirelessly to build a loving, stable home while pursuing a degree in design. Through years of dedication and creativity, she built a successful career as a designer before taking the leap into entrepreneurship as a freelance artist. Her resilience, creativity, and determination became the foundation that inspired the next generation.

In 2021, while pregnant with my daughter, I founded Jane Candle Co. with the hope of creating a business that would allow me to stay home and be present during her earliest years. Today, I have the privilege of raising my daughter while building this company alongside my mom, a true full-circle moment that reflects the strength, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit passed from one generation to the next.
Together, we thoughtfully design and hand-pour every product in Minneapolis using premium ingredients and timeless, intentional design. Our goal is to create luxury home fragrances that not only smell beautiful but also bring comfort, nostalgia, and a sense of presence to everyday life.

WHO IS JANE? 

Jane is the name of our very special dog, whom we rescued. Jane completed our family in so many ways and we’re so thankful for her therapeutic energy she’s blessed us with after losing a prominent family member. We felt it only appropriate we use her name to exemplify the immense warmth and comfort she has brought into our home life. We are home-bodies and proud of it because having a safe sacred space is a really important part of the human experience. ❤️
